“My crowns have black lines around the top”

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

“I had some crowns done a few years ago, and I was pleased with them in the beginning, but more recently I’ve noticed they have what looks like black lines around the top. Is there anything that can be done?”

Of course! This is quite a common complaint. Crowns can be made of several materials. One option, is to have metal inside and the porcelain ontop of this. Sometimes, this can become visible and hence you see a black line at the margin of the crown.

Here at Buckle & McGrath, a great deal of the time we will use crowns that do not have any metal inside, which will avoid the problem occuring at all. If, there is a need for metal, our crowns will be made in a way that conceals the metal and still avoids anything becoming noticable in the margin region.

Last week Liam left behind the rain of the UK and jetted off to the sunshine in San Francisco, California. Ever wanting to learn more, he completed a week course in Advanced Implantology. Sadly, he didnt get to see much of the sun, but did get to spend long hours learning the most advanced techniques alongside clinicians from all over the world.

The course, led by the world renound Dennis Tarnow D.D.S from New York, focused on both the surgical advancements and aesthetic restoration of implants. With many patients looking towards dental implants as a treatment option, the course has also given Liam invaluable knowledge of overcoming structural problems that may have previously rendered some patients unsuitable for implant treatment.

Natasha has completed the first part of her course on root canal treatment, and will complete the final part in September.

The course has involved attending both theroetical and practical sessions for a few days each month, in order to further broaden her knowlege and skills in Endodontics. This course has been funded by the practice in a continual effort by Buckle and McGrath to provide all of their patients with the most up-to-date and advanced techniques in their treatment.
