The Buckle & McGrath team have their Christmas bash!

Monday, December 21st, 2009

On 5th December, the team of 15 got into the festive spirit with our Christmas night out. The drinks started flowing early, with everyone meeting at Ian & Sals house at 4pm. The champagne cocktails went down a treat, and Take That karoke got us into the spirit for the night ahead.

After hitting the Empire bar, we waited for the curtains to go up for the “Never Forget” performance.  Before the final curtains came down a good time was being had by all with all our favourite original Take That songs giving us all a good excuse to dance in the aisles.

The drinks and dancing went on late into the night, (and early into Sunday!) for most, leaving just one day of recovery before we were back working hard!

Thanks to Ian & Sal for letting us into their home, and to Liam & Ian for a great practice Christmas celebration!

“I don’t want braces, can I still have a straight beautiful smile?”

Friday, December 11th, 2009

“My teeth are all crooked  and I really want to improve their appearance but I really don’t want braces; can I still have a beautiful smile?”

We get this question asked a lot. More than likely, yes. There are times where we have no choice but to resort to both options. If teeth are so misaligned we must first move them gently into position before veneering them. Only with careful analysis of tooth proportions and jaw dimensions are we able to determine that for certain. We have been able to help so many people who had absolutely refused braces without compromising the end result. Braces are not for everyone either. For various reasons sometimes braces would not even be the right choice to make a smile beautiful.

“How can I prevent my teeth from becoming discoloured?”

Monday, November 16th, 2009

“I’ve had whitening done and I’m really happy with the results but I’m scared of them going back to how they were before. How can I prevent discoloration?”

  1. See your hygienist for professional cleaning at the recommended time intercal (usually every 3-6mths)
  2. If drinks have a high stain potential, use a straw
  3. Remember to brush shortly after you have foods or drinks that are highly staining. If you can’t, try to rinse with lots of water.
  4. Avoid abrasive toothpastes which may wear the enamel, exposing more of the darker substructure in your tooth (the dentine)
  5. Don’t smoke!

Finally, use your home whitening kit to give you a little boost occasionally!

“What are porcelain veneers?”

Friday, October 16th, 2009

“Everytime I read a magazine, a celebrity is said to have had veneers. Ican see their teeth look nice, but what actually are porcelain veneers?”

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain bonded over the front surface of the teeth. They are long lasting, stain-resistant and can be a very natural looking restoration. Porcelain is very versatile; it can be used to lengthen, widen and whiten. We customise them personally to you, choosing the exact shape, colour etc.

There’s a whole host of reasons patients may have porcelain veneers. Placed on misaligned crooked teeth they can give the appearance of perfectly straight teeth, they can cover stained, discolored teeth or be applied to whiten and brighten the entire smile. We can bond longer porcelain veneers to worn or chipped teeth to make them look younger and stronger. Or they can be made to match the surrounding existing teeth, too. We would need to see you for a consultation to determine exactly what it was you needed and whether veneers were a suitable option. Book today!

“I’m really nervous, can you help?”

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

“I would really like to improve my smile, I know there’s definately some work needs doing. I’ve been putting treatment off for years as i’m afraid to see the dentist, but I know things are just getting worse. Is there anything you can do to help me in some way?”

Our practice is especially familiar of the fearful patient. Making your experience with us a truly calm and comfortable one is our priority. We understand that each patient’s experiences, both past and present are truly unique. A patient manner and gentle touch can be expected by all members of our team. In addition, we offer music CDs, anxiety medication and sedation dentistry to help our patients get the care they want and need. Why not come and visit us, see the practice, meet some of the team and enjoy a coffee? - There’s really no need to venture into see the dentist until you’re feeling more at home here!

“My teeth stick out. Is there anything that can be done?”

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

“I have buck teeth that stick out. I was offered braces when I was younger but wasn’t intested at the time. Is there anything that can be done now?!”

Certainly! Sometimes the solution may be as simple as recontouring and reshaping the teeth which can be done very quickly. Other times braces may be required to correct things, these could be traditional fixed braces, lingual appliances or even Invisalign. Cases of buck teeth may also be corrected with porcelain veneers/crowns and in some instances we may to do a combination of repositioning of teeth (with brace work) and then placing some veneers. As each situation is unique, we’ll have a better idea of the answer for you after a consultation. Call or email us to arrange this today!

Natasha comes to the end of her course!

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

It was way back in April when Natasha started some Postgraduate training in Endodontics, and time yet again has flown by! Last week she completed the final days on her course and received her certificate from the SimplyEndo team.

Never one to call it a day, she’s on the lookout for another course to keep her busy and further her knowledge and skills in another area of Dentistry. Keep it up Tash!

I would like you to convey my thanks to Mr Buckle and Mr McGrath for treatment received.

On my first visit I was most impressed with the staff and soon felt quite relaxed for the consultation.

Although I knew I needed attention, as a pensioner of long standing, I wondered if at my age it was worth bothering.  However, I did proceed and whereas before treatment I was conscious of smiling I now smile confidently.

Dentist appointments are often arcaded but with such up to date equipment, everything is for the comfort of the patient, even choice of music whilst having the work done, it certainly helps one to relax.

 My thanks and best wishes.

Laura, Rosanna & Louise all go back to school…

Monday, September 21st, 2009

It’s that time of year again when students go back to school, and this year 3 of our girls have just enrolled at college! Louise, Laura and Rosanna had never done Dental Nursing before, but started here at Buckle & McGrath all eager to take on a new challenge and career. The girls have learnt day by day exactly what’s involved and seem to have mastered it all in no time.

They are now starting another part of their training, which involves attending college one night a week for some theory over the next 12 months.  An assessor will also need to come into the practice to see them performing their daily tasks.

Good Luck girls!!

Vikki celebrates in style!

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Next week, our senior dental nurse turns the big 3-0! Never one to let an occasion pass her by, Vik celebrated at the weekend with a big party for all her friends and family. It was the perfect time for the Buckle & McGrath team to have a good get together and let their hair down away from everyday work! The celebrations went on late into the night, or was it the early hours of the morning?! A good time was had by all. Happy Birthday Vik!
