Can you give me dentures that look like my old ones?

Friday, August 28th, 2009

“I’ve been wearing false teeth for years and have never had any problems with them. Although I like the appearance and the fits only just starting to get loose, they just look worn, discoloured and generally old. Can you make a replacement set so I dont look too different and my grandchildren wont realise they’re false?!”

Your wish is our command! There are people like yourself who are quite happy with how their dentures have been but feel they are just getting a little old and worn. In this situation we can complete what we call a “copy-tech”. This means taking some impressions of the dentures themselves so as the dental lab can make new ones based on the same features as the old. The teeth can be new, but the same size, shape and colour. It can be our secret and the grandchildren will never know!

What should I do if I lose an Invisalign aligner?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

“I’m in the middle of my invisalign treamtment but cant find the aligner I should be wearing. I took it out to eat and think it may have ended up in the bin! What should I do?”

No worries! These things happen, its definately not the end of the world. There are a couple of options.

Firstly you should not go without wearing an aligner for too long, so the best thing to do is make sure you are wearing the previous alginer to the one you have lost. At least this will maintain the teeth where they are. A replacement aligner can then be ordered, although Invisalign do charge for these.

However! If youre lucky and were nearing the time to change into the next aligner it may be worth seeing if that fits. Although it will be a little tighter, if you can get the next aligner into place move straight into that one. It might hurt your teeth a little, but at least it wont hurt your pocket!!

How do I keep my new implants clean?

Monday, August 24th, 2009

“I’ve just finished all my treatment and am so pleased with the results, I want to make sure I look after my new smile more than I did my old, but how do I clean round the implant teeth?”

Throughout treatment we arrange hygienest visits and once you have finished we still insist you attend regularly to maintain your hygiene and the health of your mouth. The hygienest will go through intructions with you on how best to clean, particularly round implants/bridgework where methods might be slightly new to you.

There are many things additonal to your usual brushing. We may suggest a particualar toothpaste and/or mouthrinse. Cleaning interporximally (inbetween the teeth) may need floss, superfloss and/or tepe brushes. Your hygienist will be able to advise what you need and show you exactly how.

“How long does Root Canal Treatment take?”

Monday, August 17th, 2009

“I’ve been told I need a Root Canal on one of my teeth, and the appointment has been booked for 2 hours, will it take this long?”

Root Canal Treatment (RCT) can take a range of time, and sometimes may be spread over two visits. The time can vary depending on many things. For example firstly, the tooth that is being treated – (the further back the tooth becomes in your mouth it generally has more roots – which means more root canals!) Secondly whether the tooth has been root filled before, this can mean time is needed to remove the previous root filling which again can be time consuming. There are many more factors that can dictate how long it might take.

The thing to bear in mind is that we also need to allocate time in the appointment for things besides the actual root treatment. Things like waiting for you to get numb and talking to you about post operative care.

Finally, the time that you are actually having the treatment will be made as comfortable as possible - with the use of rubber dam and anaesthetic you wont be feeling or tasting anything in your mouth. So you can lay back, listen to the music, relax and even have a little snooze!

“My crowns have black lines around the top”

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

“I had some crowns done a few years ago, and I was pleased with them in the beginning, but more recently I’ve noticed they have what looks like black lines around the top. Is there anything that can be done?”

Of course! This is quite a common complaint. Crowns can be made of several materials. One option, is to have metal inside and the porcelain ontop of this. Sometimes, this can become visible and hence you see a black line at the margin of the crown.

Here at Buckle & McGrath, a great deal of the time we will use crowns that do not have any metal inside, which will avoid the problem occuring at all. If, there is a need for metal, our crowns will be made in a way that conceals the metal and still avoids anything becoming noticable in the margin region.

“I’ve had root canal treatment but now my tooth has gone dark”

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

“I’ve had a Root Canal Treatment and now my tooth’s changed colour and looks dark compared to the rest, is there anything you can do?”

Of course! We can do whats called internal bleaching – which is exactly what it sounds like – we put the bleach inside the tooth rather than normal whitening on the outside surface. Plus there’s always veneers and crowns that can make things look more like you want them to.

“I’ve got some missing teeth, can you do anything for me?”

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

“Over the years I’ve got had to lose some teeth. Now I’ve got missing teeth, i want to improve how things look and be able to eat foods I currently avoid. Is there anything you can do for me?”

Yes! With implants, bridges and even dentures there’s always something we can do. Replacing missing teeth is something we do everyday for many patients. We need to have a thorough consultation with you so we can determine exactly what the right solution is for you personally. One size doesn’t fit all! But all our solutions combine making things look good with functionally getting things right.

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

“I have recently started my invisalign treatment, how many hours per day do I have to wear them?”

Each aligner should be worn at all times day and night, they should only be removed when eating and drinking.
